News Release for next Sunday’s (February 17) Salisbury Post paper.
Meet Salisbury’s newest local author, as she presents her recently published book, Character Blocks.
Salisbury has been home for Dr. Terry Donelson for over 45 years. Many local folks may remember her from those earlier years when she waited tables at both T&F and Richard’s BBQ.
In 1993 she gave up waitress work and started what quickly turned into a very successful cleaning business. It was the type of work that not only provided sufficient financial support but also the flexibility she needed as a single mother to go back to school.
Dr. Donelson graduated Magna Cum Laude from Winston-Salem State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. As she went on to continue her education she was able to earn a Doctorate in Ministry as well as a Doctorate in Theology, from Christian Life School of Theology which equipped her for a new kind of work.
In 2004 she helped start Jabez Family Outreach, a 501 c 3, where she operated two transitional homes for addicted men and women. Later she began Relational Rehab, a counseling service that uses Biblical principles as a guide or standard.
Over the years she has developed and taught numerous life-skills workshops which include Boundaries, Communication, and Parenting, to name a few. She has held special training sessions for agencies such as Smart Start and Family Crisis in both Rowan County and Davie County. Dr. Donelson is also called upon to speak/teach at other local agencies, churches, and ministries such as WOW (Women of Worship…a woman’s meeting held at the INN here in Salisbury.)
In recent years, Dr. Donelson taught life-skills classes at a minimum security prison where she made a positive impact. Many students told her that they wish they had known some of the specific life-skills earlier in life. They went so far to say that they thought they may not have engaged in criminal activities had they known earlier in life how to better relate to others. The consequences of ignorance is sad.
Realizing that counseling and training seminars are not available or affordable to everyone Dr. Terry decided to help those in need by writing books that could offer some specific, necessary, relational tools.
She has recently published and released her first. Character Blocks is a Christian, self-help book that offers strategic insights for building a strong personal foundation. Character represents the building blocks of that foundation. When one’s character is good the foundation will be strong and will support one’s life or dreams. However, when one’s character is not so good it blocks one’s dreams. It doesn’t take an inmate to know that.
Amy W. from VA was one of the first to get her copy and quoted, “Once I started reading I couldn’t quit until I read the whole thing. I found it very interesting and informational. I’m going to let the guy I work with read it. I’ll even buy one for my boss. I could relate with her stories which made it easy for me to understand how to apply the steps in my life. I look forward to reading her next book.”
You’ll want to get a copy of this book too so you can learn how to strengthen your foundation. Dr. Terry will be at the following locations where you can purchase a signed copy for only $15.00. (This discounted price is available at the book signings only.)
